Children's Christmas Chaos Cafe in Sulby raised an amazing £316.30 for the Charity.  Thank you to all involved in particular Mr. & Mrs. Lole who opened up their home and created this wonderful event.


Nedgroup Investments very kindly donated funds to the Charity at Christmas in lieu of a secret Santa.  A generous £95 for the charity.  Every penny counts.


Bucket collection after a performance of Glee at the Gaiety Theatre in November raised £67.00.  Thanks to all who kindly helped.

Directors’ Report


For the year ended 30th September 2013


The directors submit their report on the affairs of the Charitable Company (the Charity) together with the financial statements for the year ended 30th September 2013.


Incorporation and Principal Activity


The Charity was incorporated on 28th April 2011 and began operation on 29th July 2011. The company is registered as Manx Charity Number 1077, is limited by guarantee and consequently has no share capital. The Charity’s principal activity is to further the educational needs of those in the Isle of Man with learning difficulties by assisting suitable candidates to attend universities and colleges of further education.




The result for the period is shown on page 3. In the period the charity made a surplus of £3,750.

Statement of Directors' Responsibilities


Company law requires the directors to prepare financial statements for each financial period which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the company and of the profit or loss of the company for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the directors are required to:


                      select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;


                      make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; and


                      prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is             

                        inappropriate to presume that the company will continue in business.


The directors are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the company and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Companies Acts 1931-2004. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Directors of the Skills for Independent Living Scheme


We hereby report on the attached accounts of the Skills for Independent Living Scheme for the year end 30th September 2013.


Respective responsibilities of the Directors and examiner

The Charity's Directors are responsible for the preparation of the accounts for the charity. They consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 5 of the Charities Registration Act 1989 and that an independent examination is appropriate.


It is our responsibility to :­


  • Examine the accounts;
  • Follow the procedures laid down in the general guidance given by the general registry; and
  • State whether particular matters have come to our attention.


Basis of Independent examiner's report

Our examination was carried out in accordance with the general guidance given by the General Registry. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and the seeking of explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently we do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.


Independent examiner's statement

In connection with our examination, no matter has come to our attention which gives us reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements:­


  • to keep accounting records in accordance with the prevailing regulations;


  • to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the prevailing regulations;


  • to accurately identify assets and liabilities of the charity;


  • to ensure that all charity monies expended have been in the furtherance of the charity's objects;


  • for the charity to maintain a substantial and genuine connection with the Isle of Man have not been met.

1)         Accounting policies


            (a)        Basis of Accounting

                        The accounts are prepared under the historical cost convention and comply with the requirements of the charity's governing document and Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP 2008) issued by the Charity Commission for England and Wales in May 2008.


            (b)        Incoming resources

                        Incoming resources are recognised on a receipts basis.


            (c)        Resources Expended

                        Expenditure is recognised on a payments basis.



2)         Taxation


These accounts form the basis of taxation for the 2013/14 year.   The charity has made no provision for taxation under the provisions whereby Registered Charities pay no tax on Charitable Income.
