Skills for Independent Living Scheme in social networks

SKILS is a Manx registered charity (No. 1077) promoting independence and education for the learning disabled resident on the Isle of Man.

The Charity was established in April 2011 with the following objectives:

  • To further the educational needs of those in the Isle of Man with learning disabilities by assisting suitable candidates who wish to attend universities and colleges of further education;

  • To improve the lives of those in the Isle of Man with learning disabilities together with their families and carers by providing services relevant to their needs; and

  • To promote the inclusion of those with learning disabilities, their families and carers in the educational, economic, social, cultural and political life of the Isle of Man and supporting individuals to realise their full potential.

These students left the Island for Myerscough College in September 2010.  One of them completed two years, another three years, one other four years and two others are going back this September for their fifth and final year.  There are also more new students who have started the programme at Myerscough in the past couple of years and are enjoying their experience enormously.  Thank you to all who support this charity.
